Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey is our collection partner for Northern New Jersey. NY-NJ Goodwill visits our recycling bins weekly to collect the recycled plastic bags, stretch film and case shrink wrap deposited there and is responsible for bin management and maintenance.

Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit human services corporation, serves more than 120,000 people with disabilities and disadvantages annually and places over 13,000 persons in jobs. The community-based organization works with children and youth, persons with disabilities, recent immigrants, people moving from welfare to work, ex-offenders, mature or unskilled workers, and the unemployed through more than 85 programs at over 30 sites in New York City, Long Island and Northern New Jersey. Founded in 1915, NY-NJ Goodwill was one of the metropolitan area’s original recyclers, collecting and selling unwanted clothing and household goods to provide work for people in need and to support Goodwill programs. The agency continues to “go green” through its 35 retail stores and computer recycling partnerships in New York City and Northern New Jersey.

Founded in 1948, Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey/Quaker City is a nonprofit, community-based organization.  Its mission is to provide education, job training and employment services that prepare individuals with disabilities or disadvantaging conditions for competitive employment in the community.  Revenue from the mass collection and resale of donated items in Goodwill’s 17 area retail stores fund these programs while contributing to America’s recycling efforts.  Goodwill also operates employment training facilities for the disabled and disadvantaged populations in Maple Shade, Pennsauken, Stratford, Westampton and Woodbury.

Recycled plastic bags will start a new life as TREX® composite lumber.

Based in Winchester, Va., Trex Company is the nation’s largest manufacturer of recycled, non-wood decking. Used primarily for residential and commercial decking, Trex® decking and railing is a recycled wood-polymer product made from a mixture of recycled plastic – such as plastic grocery bags – and untreated hardwood scrap from furniture makers. Last year alone, Trex Company reclaimed more than 250 million pounds of plastic and an equal amount of hardwood sawdust and wood materials to create its products.
